Thoughts This Fortnight

Texas Opens And Lina Hidalgo Still Has Harris County, TX At Level 1 Caution, The Highest!

We are making real progress on Covid, thanks to Operation Warp Speed led by President Trump and President Biden's efforts. This is an example of building on past successes. It is true Biden doesn't want to share credit, bad on him.

Has Governor Greg Abbott jumped the gun re-opening Texas? Hopefully his timing is correct, but we have just come out of an historic Texas freeze, with a lot of family and non-family togetherness.

The fact is statistics regarding hospitalizations and vaccinations levels are important, but positive tests have little meaning.

The credibility of the Harris County Judge, Chief Administrative Official, on this topic is minimal. Lina Hidalgo has had Harris County on Threat Level 1 for almost a year! Threat Level 1 is the most severe, and she asking residents to only leave their homes for essential activities! It's like crying wolf all the time, people tune out.

One final question. Is Texas ready for being liberated?

Whatever Happened To The Ike Dike
For Future Hurricane Threats?

We are coming up in August on thirteen (13) years since Hurricane Ike. One of the innovative ideas was to build what is called the Ike Dike.

It was designed to provide protection from a hurricane in the Houston/Galveston area, which in hurricanes could be overwhelmed by a 25 foot storm surge up Galveston Bay and the Houston Ship Channel.

With all the federal money being spent in stimulus bills, trillions and trillions, why has this critical priority not yet a reality?

While Your Texas Media Sleeps, Sheila Jackson Lee Proposes Massive Legally Owned Gun Grab

You probably haven't heard about it, but Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) has filed HB 127 seeking to require licensing of all firearms and ammunition; it also requires gun owners to buy insurance, gun owners to complete a government training course, have a clean record and register their arms with the Feds.

For those concerned about privacy, Lee says registry information would be available to all law enforcement and the U.S. military.

If you have ever been hospitalized due to mental illness, substance abuse or brain disease, forget about it. Lee also proposes the psychological evaluation process would also take into account the psychological condition of other members of the licensee's household, current and former spouses, relatives and associates.

Of course the criminals who get their guns on the street illegally, this bill has no effect.

This isn't gun safety, it's insane overreaching on law-abiding citizens. No thanks Sheila.

The Woke, Purging The Culture, Now It’s Dr. Seuss

I don't know about you, but I remember reading to my children or with them, Dr. Seuss books. Now I read them with my young granddaughters and we all enjoy them.

But wait, the "Woke" are now purging Dr. Seuss. They claim there are racial undertones in his books. Are you kidding me? Yearning for Justice, a "woke" education advisory group concludes the book The Sneetches and Other Stories are described as racist because sneetches look at the world in a race neutral way and learn to accept one another. That sounds like a laudable goal.

The Woke's goal is to demonize Dr. Seuss and award him the scarlet letter of "R" (racist). This is part of the pattern we are dealing with, the goal to rip up our existing culture because it is racist and replace it with politically correct garbage.

As one good friend used to say on radio, "Don't let them kill your joy," like joy from reading Dr. Seuss with your children and your grandchildren.

Anti-Semitism Grows In U.S.,
Where Are The Democratic Critics?

By Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families
(gary.bauer@amvalues.org)

"Sadly, anti-Semitism is on the rise in many parts of the world today."

"When we think of anti-Semitism, what often comes to mind are images of ignorant neo-Nazis vandalizing synagogues. But it is also creeping into the mainstream of academia and Hollywood, where there seems to be a growing acceptance of anti-Semitism on the left.

"Oberlin College is in the news this week. It turns out that a tenured professor of religion, Mohammad Jafar Mahalatti, previously served as Iran's U.N. ambassador. He denied Israel's right to exist and defended Palestinian terrorism against Israel. Why would any American university hire him?

"NBC is taking fire for promoting anti-Semitic tropes on the comedy show 'Saturday Night Live' and the medical drama 'Nurses.'

"And there's renewed concerns about anti-Semitism in the 'woke' progressive movement after Temple University Professor Marc Lamont Hill said recently that the Black Lives Matter movement isn't just about 'dismantling white supremacy' in America, but also in Israel, which he referred to as a 'settler-colonial movement in Palestine.'

"Again referring to the Jewish state of Israel, Hill added, 'Black Lives Matter, very explicitly, is talking about the dismantling of the Zionist project' and 'very explicitly embracing BDS [boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel] on those grounds.'

"This isn't Hill's first controversy involving his deep-seated anti-Semitism. He was fired by CNN in 2018 after speaking at a U.N. conference where he called for 'a free Palestine from the river to the sea.'" That phrase is the unofficial slogan of Hamas and other radical anti-Israel groups, and it means erasing the nation of Israel.

"Again, anti-Semitism is not confined to the dark corners of the Internet or to any one end of the political spectrum. It is a sin that must be confronted and condemned whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head."
