Thoughts This Fortnight

There Is Another: Chris Carmona
To Take On Paul Simpson
For Harris County GOP Chairman

This fall in Harris County (Houston), Republicans have been wondering if we will have a real choice other than the most unsuccessful chair in modern history (Simpson).

Let's recall the 2016 wipeout, the worst defeat in the 73-year history of our party and the architect of that campaign wants another chance? We can do a lot better.

We can elect a leader that reflects our principles and values, while understanding the changing nature of Harris County. A leader that understands that the party must expand to communities that share our values, but haven't yet voted with us. A leader who understands how to use modern technology and traditional campaign methods. A leader that understands we need a plan to win in November, and a leader who will have a prominent media presence, which highlights the new look GOP. A leader who understands that our quality candidates must be promoted and mentioned, unlike in 2016. A leader who will expose the weak Democratic candidates for what they are. And finally, a leader who will work with all factions of the party, and not just with his cronies.

Conservatives can be really excited with the emergence of Chris Carmona, a well-respected, longtime Republican activist and well-regarded attorney. Chris has served our cause for years as a Harris County Republican Party Outreach Committee Chairman, Young Republican National Federation Co-Chair and in 2016 was a leader in a National Outreach program to swing voters seeking their support for the GOP ticket, among other things.

Rush Limbaugh's Extraordinary Wisdom
On Male-Female Relations

Last week as the swirling firestorm of reported sexual harassment of women by men in many prominent walks of life - Hollywood, the Media and politicians. Rush Limbaugh offered some needed thoughtful comments:

"Forget sex, gender, and all of that. I'm just assessing where our culture is going. And it's because of the politicization of everything, because we have politicized relationships now. We have politicized the way men and women interact. That all began with feminism in the modern era of the late sixties. We politicize everything. The NFL is politicized, you name it, and it's all politicized now. And so since it's politicized, those who use politics as a weapon then seize on everything that occurs and they use it as a weapon."

"And so now male-female, man-woman, boy-girl relationships end up being weaponized by the people who have an agenda attached to them.

"There's gonna be a time where somebody totally innocent is accused of this and isn't gonna have a photo that would disprove it. So I'm just alerting you. I mean, you know how paralyzing the allegation of racism is. And you know how the whole subject of race, even though we have gone to war, even though 500,000-plus Americans have died to end slavery, we may as well have not taken one step toward ending slavery as the entire subject of race is used as a political weapon in America today.

"And because of the immediate benefits, the perceived immediate benefits here politically of identifying somebody as a reprobate or a thug or a pig, you name it, the politically oriented are glomming onto this, and it has the potential of spiraling way out of control because, as you know, not every one of us is clean and pure as the wind-driven snow."

TCR Comment: No one should be subject to sexual harassment. So how do we ensure healthy dating relationships while protected against the harassment?

Southeast Texas Flooding Solutions Update

Thanks to Governor Abbott's aggressive push for the money needed to prevent future flooding. My sources tell us the State is ready to do its part. So where is the Federal Government?

What are they thinking? The City of Houston was trying to push through City Council approval for more residential development in the flood prone areas of the city. It was stopped for now, but it seems business as usual is already back. You can't make this up.

Flood control is the top priority for our state and region, don't forget it. It should govern all of our discussions.

Now We Know Why Obama Hid The bin Laden Files From The Public

The Big Reveal in the 11/13/2017 issue of the Weekly Standard, is a must read, as it reveals that President Obama engaged in "transparent lies." They answer the question on why the bin Laden papers were locked up by the Obama White House:

"The answer is now clear. First, bin Laden's terrorist network wasn't the beaten and fugitive force Obama - then seeking reelection - claimed. Second, the documents proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Al-Qaeda had an uneasy but mutually beneficial relationship with Iran, and Obama spent much of his second term laboring to convince Americans that the Iranian regime could be trusted."

"Almost the full collection of documents has now been made available - something this magazine has been calling for since 2013. President Trump and his administration, in particular CIA director Mike Pompeo, deserve credit for making good on their predecessors' pledges - and prevailing over the bureaucratic inertia that would have kept the vast majority of these documents secret forever.

"Much of the information contained in this trove is dated. But it will yield valuable insights to scholars and journalists on the workings of a global terror network. And it will tell us much about the Obama administration's handling of the terror war from 2009 to 2011. From what we've seen already, the bin Laden documents won't do much to flatter "the most transparent administration in history."

TCR Comment: Now they tell us. It's now clear Obama would have lost to Mitt Romney, if the truth were told!

For Gene Pack for HCC District 9

Early Voting starts Wednesday, November 29th for the December 9th Runoff Election.

A bright spot in this election cycle is the candidacy of Eugene "Gene" Pack for Houston Community College Trustee, District 9.

Gene is campaigning as "The Outsider Running Against the Insiders." He is a humble, conservative servant who deserves your support and will be an asset to the board.

TCR urges you to contact his campaign and do what is necessary to see that he is victorious.
